About the Role
We are an ambitious organism platform company seeking an outstanding candidate for the role of Senior Strain Engineer. As a highly-motivated individual, you will specialise in pathway design and metabolic engineering of novel cyanobacterial strains. You will tackle a range of challenges as an integral part of the team, and demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, creativity, and initiative. You will be adaptable, work well collaboratively, and be able to thrive in a start-up environment.
Development of genetic design strategies in collaboration with CTO.
Creation & execution of genetic design strategies, including:
Design of genetic components
Design of plasmids; Management of build & verification process
Management of cyanobacteria strain pipeline, including sequence verification
Designing, implementing and managing growth & productivity assays
Working with Biochemistry lead to coordinate analysis pipeline
Support evaluation of design strategies, in collaboration with Biochemistry team and CTO.
Updating CTO and Executive status and timelines for design strategies.
Management of lab resources; overseeing smooth functioning of the strain pipeline.
Managing growth & productivity assays on bioreactors, in collaboration with Strain Engineering & Cultivation team
Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Synthetic Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or closely-related area, with at least 2 years industrial/postdoctoral lab experience within metabolic engineering & biotechnology.
Expert in synthetic biology & microorganism design; hands-on experience with the latest genetic engineering tools, including multi-fragment DNA assembly, cloning, pathway assembly, & chromosomal manipulation essential.
Previous experience engineering cyanobacteria advantageous, but not essential.
Previous experience using metabolic models to drive organism design advantageous.
Direct experience with automated strain-engineering platforms advantageous.
Natural Product biosynthesis experience advantageous.
