FLAVORS & NUTRITION
SUSTAINABLE. INNOVATIVE. CREATIVE
Food supply, in all its forms, is under increasing pressure from environmental pollution, climate change and population growth. We have a role to play in sustainably addressing this problem and in revolutionizing the future of food through bioengineering our cyanobacteria strains to produce important food proteins, functional food additives and nutritional chemicals.
Natural flavorings and colorants from natural sources such as terpenes, phycobiliproteins and carotenoids are increasingly replacing unsustainable chemical alternatives. Fatty acids such as omega-3s DHA, ALA and EPA are in increasing demand but supply is unreliable and inconsistent. Through our Cyanoworks™ platform, we are developing sustainable alternative sources for natural flavorings, colorants and fats.
Through our precision engineering platform, we are able to deliver sustainable production of these important and high value compounds.
CASE STUDIES

ASTAXANTHIN
We biomanufacture high quality astaxanthin, stereochemically identical to that produced by Haematococcus pluvialis, using less land, water and energy whilst capturing and utilizing CO2. Astaxanthin is a highly sought after feed supplement for aquaculture and as a nutraceutical and cosmetic ingredient.
For nutraceuticals, our astaxanthin is identical to that produced by Haematococcus pluvialis and, thanks to our advanced solar biomanufacturing Cyanoworks™ technology, can be produced more cost-effectively and sustainably. Our process consumes less land, water and energy so that these precious resources are available to help feed the planet.
